A prescription for opera: How singing can support transgender women and people with respiratory conditions

It turns out singing can be more than just a powerful art form: it also has surprising potential as a tool to promote wellness and rehabilitation. Anna Zumbansen is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences and a trained speech-language pathologist. Recently, she partnered with the Opéra de Montréal on a project to assess the effects of singing on two different groups: transgender women and people with chronic conditions stemming from long COVID.
