Overview

The University of Ottawa is building a new sustainable, collaborative high-tech research and learning facility that will include spaces for the Faculty of Medicine and intendedly to other partners of the Canadian health and life sciences ecosystem.

The new state-of-the-art Advanced Medical Research Centre on the Alta Vista Campus will essentially cradle vibrant collaborations between academia, local and global leaders in health care, government, and industry.

Weaving together a network of Canadian and international partners in proximity to regulatory and policy bodies and federal government research laboratories will amplify the quality and momentum of research, innovation, and healthcare delivery in Canada.

The new 350,000 square feet purpose-built infrastructure will support the University’s local and global ambitions, drive innovation, and attract the world’s brightest students, researchers, and experts. The LEED-certified facilities will lessen our economic and environmental footprint and benefit from the latest technology and sustainable design techniques.

The new facility will offer world-class research and training environments to the Faculty, the Ottawa Health Innovation Hub, and various other industry, healthcare, and government partners.

The project will also bring improvements and upgrades to the facility amenities in the Roger Guindon Building and modernize its mechanical, architectural, and electrical systems.

The new collaborative infrastructure will serve as a flagship of improved patient care, healthcare delivery, advanced medical research, innovation, and commercialization. It will allow for more collaborative and impactful research to bridge the evidence–practice gap and accelerate the implementation of new evidence and therapeutics in healthcare practice.

The diverse and technologically advanced spaces will grow Canadian research capacity, transform teaching delivery, and demonstrate the University’s commitment to becoming a national and global leader in research and education excellence.
