The 2021 survey is designed for all graduates who received either a bachelor's or first professional degree from uOttawa in 2019 or 2020. Respondents can share their opinion on their university experience and express their level of satisfaction with their program. They are also invited to provide details on their employment situation.

The data collected will serve several purposes, including the Evaluation of Undergraduate Programs that the University uses to continually improve the quality and relevance of its program offerings. In addition, a summary of respondent employment data will be included in the information published by Career Services for uOttawa students and graduates.

The Canadian University Survey Consortium (CUSC) has conducted surveys since 1994 to help participating universities assess their programs and services in comparison to other institutions. The results of this survey allow us to learn more about our students, their expectations, and their reactions to university life. Indicator 1.1 of our institution's scorecard is based on this survey. 

The survey follows a three-year cycle to determine the target population: first-year students, all undergraduates and graduating students. Henceforth, the University of Ottawa only participates to the CUSC survey targeting the graduating students. The University of Ottawa participated in the Graduate and Professional Student Survey (GPSS) for the first time in 2007.  This survey provides useful information on educational practices at the graduate level and the level of satisfaction of our graduate students.  Indicator 1.6 of our institution’s scorecard will be based on this survey for the graduate results.

Since 2005, the University of Ottawa has participated in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), administered by the Indiana University Centre for Post-Secondary Research. The objective of this survey is to measure the extent to which students engage in effective educational activities that the institution provides for their learning and personal development. In the context of the multi-year accountability agreements with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

The Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) collects employment information about graduates of undergraduate programs through a survey annually conducted by all Ontario universities.  The survey is administered, in collaboration with each institution, by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC).

Data collected through this survey is primarily used for calculating employment rates six months and two years after graduation.  These rates are published in our Performance Indicator page.

The same questionnaire (PDF, 469KB) has been used over the past number of years.  Some details about survey implementation by cohort are provided below.

As of 2010, the University began conducting the End-of-Program Survey annually among students who are on the verge of completing their bachelor’s or first professional program at uOttawa. The survey gives students an opportunity to express their level of satisfaction with the University on the whole, their program, the teaching they received and the services they called on. The survey also helps us determine participation rates in enrichment experiences. 

The data gathered are used for instance in the Evaluation of Undergraduate Programs, which allows the University to continually improve the quality and relevance of its programs. The data also serve to determine indicators 1.2 (quality of services) and 1.9 (experiential learning) on our Scorecard for undergraduate students.
