The certificate will offer Indigenous learners an introduction to the legal systems of different Indigenous peoples in Canada, which they will be encouraged to compare with Quebec and Canadian state-derived systems in certain key areas of law.
The Certificate was initiated by Professor Eva Ottawa, an Atikamekw-Nehirowiskwew and member of the Manawan community, with the support of Sophie Thériault, Professor and Vice Dean Academic at the Civil Law Section, as one more step to reconciliation.

3:53 p.m.: Speech by Ghislain Picard, AFN Regional Chief, Quebec/Labrador
4 p.m.: Presentation of the Certificate by Professor Eva Ottawa, including a video presentation of the summer course. A presentation of the cohort of students and the academic team will follow. A cocktail will follow the ceremony.
