This workshop is designed for academic leaders who want to learn the fundamentals of project management in a higher education setting. It will include theoretical and practical components.

Through this four-hour training, you will :

  • Have an overview of how to plan, execute, monitor and close projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Identify practices leading towards project success or failure.
  • Analyze and discuss a case study in an interfaculty group setting.

By the end of this workshop, you will have learned the basic of project management principles and practices in a university context and gain more confidence and competence in your management skills.

This in-person workshop will be facilitated by Professor Lavagnon Ika. It will require active participation and engagement.

Please note that this workshop will take place in English.

Registration is mandatory and limited to 20 participants. Lunch will be provided.

Professor Lavagnon Ika is Full Professor of Project Management (PM), MSc Program Director for both Health Systems and Management Programs, former Program Director for the MSc in Management, Faculty Leader for uOttawa partnerships with African Universities, and Founding Director of the Major Projects Observatory at the Telfer School of Management (uOttawa). A renowned expert in project management, he delves into the complexities of project behavior and strategy and his research spans critical topics such as project success, failure, cost overruns, and benefit shortfalls. Professor Ika has made significant contributions to the research on leading global development projects, including those funded by the World Bank and Global Affairs Canada in Africa. His multidisciplinary work has been published in prestigious journals and outlets worldwide, with two of his papers being amongst the most cited papers in top PM journals since 2011. As an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Project Management, the highest ranked journal in his field, he continues to shape the field of Project Management and inspire fellow researchers. Professor Ika has been advisory panel member for the 2023 report on World Bank's projects performance and is currently working with the US-based Project Management Institute (PMI) to help develop a modern project success scale for practitioners.
