Details
This event will take place on Feb 6th, 2024, at FSS4007 (Faculty of Social Sciences building) from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. Please note that this event is open to all, admission is free and no registration is needed.
Dr. Lewis will discuss the work she and her colleagues did with Black LGBTQ+ populations that incorporates contemplative practices, which are strategies for decolonizing inner life. A purpose of the mbongi is to continue to disrupt Eurocentric thought regarding Black LGBTQ+ persons which can result in dynamics of oppression. This is an excellent opportunity to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field and gain valuable insights.
We hope to see you in numbers!
*Mbongi is a word in the Kikongo language which means “learning place” (Association of Black Psychologists, 2018). The term is used to refer to a coming together of the people to address a community concern or with the aim to problem-solve in a meeting.
