National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, Canadians from coast to coast will gather on the third National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour Indigenous peoples. We will collectively acknowledge the tragic legacy of residential schools.

Established in 2021, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation builds on Orange Shirt Day, which was created in 2013 to raise awareness about residential schools and their impact on Indigenous peoples and communities. It responds to a commitment made in the wake of the 94 Calls to Action in the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which called for the recognition of the history and legacy of residential schools in Canada.

Please join us on Monday, September 30, 2024, in University Square at 9:30 a.m. to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The ceremony will be followed by a community feast.

A number of activities and events are scheduled across campus during the week. See the details below.
