Information Technology is hosting a contest to increase cybersecurity awareness at the University of Ottawa

Contest rules

Eligibility

No purchase necessary. This contest is organized by Information Technology atthe University of Ottawa and is open to students currently enrolled at the University of Ottawa. Contestants are not eligible to enter if they are (or if they live with) an employee of the University of Ottawa.

To Enter

To enter the contest, each contestant must have a public Instagram account. The contest begins on October 1, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. EST and ends on October 31, 2024, at 11:59 EST. By entering, contestants agree that they have read and understood these Contest Rules. To enter the contest, contestants must complete any of the three following activities. Each completed activity counts as one entry into the contest.

  1. Follow the @uOttawaTI account
  2. Like any of uOttawaTI’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month Instagram posts during October 2024
  3. Tag friends in any of uOttawaTI’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month Instagram posts during October 2024 (extra entry per person tagged)

Prize

Two prizes consisting of a University of Ottawa sweatshirt from the Campus store, each valued at up to $100 including all applicable taxes (Canadian dollars). The prize must be accepted as is or forfeited, and it cannot be redeemed for cash or credit.

Selection of Winners

The winners will be randomly selected amongst all contestants on November 1, 2024.

Following the draw, the winners will be informed by Instagram direct message before November 8, 2024. They will be asked to provide their student number for validation of enrollment status.  

Winners will have up to two weeks to reply and organize the pickup of their prize. If the selected contestants cannot be reached within 14 days of being chosen as the winner, the prize will be awarded to a new winner. The odds of winning a prize depend on the number of eligible entries received.

Publicity

The winners’ names and photographs may be publicly available on the Information Technology website at it.uottawa.ca and Instagram, and other social media in November 2024. By participating in this contest, contestants agree to the publication of their name and image should they be selected as a winner. The winners acknowledge that in receiving the prize, they release the University of Ottawa from any and all liability arising from participation in the contest or from the acceptance of any prize.

Privacy Statement and Consent

The University of Ottawa will collect and maintain the information provided by contestants for the purpose of measuring engagement in Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2024. The University of Ottawa will not disclose personal information to third parties, except as required by law or a court, or when having a third party perform services, in which case confidentiality clauses will ensure protection of personal information. By entering this contest, contestants consent to such use of their personal information. In compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), any personal information that the University of Ottawa collects, including through a contest, will be handled in a confidential manner by authorized staff and for the purpose for which it was collected.

Governing law

This contest is subject to and governed by the laws of Ontario and applicable Canadian laws.

Changes or cancellation

The University of Ottawa reserves the right to change these contest rules or cancel this contest at any time.

The University is not responsible or liable for any damage or losses arising from or connected to the contest. Submissions that do not fully comply with the contest rules are ineligible.
