Reset MFA on a mobile device
The following instructions will assist you in resetting the MFA on your mobile device.
It is now possible for you to reset your Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) by using the Self-Service MFA Reset (SSMR). This tool allows you to reset your MFA on a new mobile device (if you lost or replaced yours) or if you encounter issues with the Microsoft Authenticator app on your existing mobile device to access uOttawa systems.
For security purposes, the following criteria must be met to use the SSMR:
- Your internet connection (IP network) must be in Canada.
- The MFA reset must be done between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. EST.
- You cannot use this tool if your password was changed in the last 72 hours.
To start your MFA Reset, you will need:
- the mobile device that you will use for authentication with the MFA app installed.
- a recovery email address registered to your uoAccess account.
Then, visit the SSMR webpage and follow these instructions:
- Enter your uoAccess ID and password, do the CAPTCHA verification and click “Login”.
- Validate your identity by providing the requested information and click “Next”.
- A verification code will be sent to your recovery email address (configured previously), enter that code, and click “Submit”.
- Your MFA is now reset, and you must enrol your device.
If you encounter issues with this process and are unable to reset your MFA, please send a request to Service Desk by completing and submitting the Account reset form.
