  • Microsoft Edge Chromium, Chrome desktop latest version, Firefox desktop latest version. Note: Firefox may change the fonts used in Power BI.
  • Safari latest version. Note: Power BI doesn't run in any browsers in iOS10 or previous versions.
External sharingReports and dashboards can be shared only with those users who have the same email domains or the ones who have their email domains listed in your Office 365 tenant, however, generated PDF reports can be shared with externals.
Basic components
  • Power BI Desktop is the application that runs on a Windows computer, mainly to design and publish reports. It is free and available to all employees. This version will allow a user to create reports for personal use or to export for others.
  • Power BI Pro is the licence distributed at the University although other versions exist. Its interfaces have similarities with Excel thus reducing the learning curve for many. The Pro version provides data governance and content packaging and distribution.

    The Power BI Pro is licensed by the university. This license is required if:
    • A user needs to create a dashboard to share with others.
    • A user needs to view a shared dashboard.
  • Power BI Mobile Apps run on your iOS and Android mobile devices.
Limitations
  • Complex in nature, data quality, does not handle large data sources properly
  • Performance Issues, bulky user interface.

Eligibility

A5 licence for Faculty: Available for Professors, research associates (except postdoctoral fellows), librarians, power plant and trades personnel in the following groups: SSUO, PIPSC, management positions (NM) and confidential positions (NC).

Fees 

Power BI is part of M365 service and provided at no cost to eligible users
