“The measures taken by President Kais Saied can be analyzed in a variety of ways. In terms of legality of his actions, the measures imposed are unconstitutional and can be seen to represent crimes against Tunisian law and certain continent-wide treaties. These measures do not respect the conditions necessary for the activation of Article 80 in the Constitution.
“From a political, social and economic standpoint, these measures are – in some respects – justified because of the total failure and incompetence since 2011 when the successive Islamist governments of the Ennahdha Movement were in power.”
