Tensions between Mexico and Canada after the Trudeau-Trump meeting

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to Prime Ministers Trudeau and Ford - the latter having said that it was an insult for Canada to be compared to Mexico - saying that indeed Mexico and Canada could not be compared since Canadian drug decriminalization policies had created a “huge” problem with the use of Fentanyl, whereas there was no such problem in Mexico.

However, the former CUSMA chief negotiator for Mexico declared that the new distance between Canada and Mexico was “quite catchable”. Mexico also said it was ready to open its doors to people who might be forcibly deported by Trump.
