"Unfortunately, it is the worst possible time for these friendly neighbors to engage in such an unnecessary 'tariff game'. The United States needs to import aluminum and Canada is the most suitable country to cater to this demand. Given the history of cooperation and intelligence sharing, the argument of 'security threat' is quite weak; further, given that America is not self-sufficient to satisfy its internal demand, it is quite reasonable for it to important aluminum from other countries and Canada should be the best choice. So, Canada can rightly decide to impose retaliatory tariffs to protect its interest.”
