Coronavirus Update

March 12, 2020 6:40 p.m.

The University of Ottawa is collaborating closely with public health officials and other Canadian universities to respond to the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19 in Canada.

Guided by the University’s Emergency Operations team, the administration is taking measures to minimize the impact of Coronavirus on the uOttawa community and on uOttawa campuses in Ottawa, Toronto and Windsor.

No cases of Coronavirus have been identified within the uOttawa community; however, the situation is fluid and combatting the potential spread of the virus is a priority to protect the health and safety of our community.

Based on recommendations by public health officials that ‘social distancing’ is an effective means of protecting students, staff and faculty members from infection, the administration is exploring the possibility of moving the remainder of the academic semester to distance learning (online, etc.) as early as next week.

At present, however, no changes have been made to classes, or exam schedules at uOttawa. Please continue to monitor our website for further updates.

Nonetheless, today uOttawa is announcing that in response to the Coronavirus threat and to reduce the risk of infection, we are implementing the following measures:

  • All uOttawa March Break camps have been cancelled.
  • The Open House for prospective undergraduate students scheduled for March 21 has been cancelled.
  • All University-related travel by uOttawa staff and students is prohibited until further notice. Faculty travel is strongly discouraged.
  • Any University event that involve visitors arriving from international destinations should be cancelled.
