Dear members of our community,
As it has been reported in the media over the last few days, the provincial government announced this morning a 10 percent reduction in tuition fees for Canadian students registered in Ontario universities. The reduction will come into effect for the 2019-2020 academic year and will be followed by a freeze for the 2020-2021 academic year. The government also announced significant changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), as well as a new framework for ancillary service fees.
The University of Ottawa is assessing the impact of this announcement on our budget and operations. We have always been committed to offering the best academic programs and services to our student population. I can assure you that this commitment will not change. You can expect more information to be released in due course as our analysis is completed.
Over the last few years, we have undertaken an important review of our operating budget and procedures and as a result, we have improved our ability to address challenges such as these. Our objective has been and will continue to be to provide high quality educational experience to our students in order to develop the skills and talent required to respond to the rapidly changing needs of a global workforce, while improving our financial management.
The University of Ottawa is one the world’s best institution to study, teach, conduct research and work. I am confident that together, as a community, we will continue to excel.
