Today, RBC announced a new philanthropic donation of $500,000 to uOttawa. This generous commitment from RBC builds on a 40-year partnership with the university that has provided support for scholarships and other student activities.

This new initiative supports uOExperience, a program to address skills gaps such as lack of transferable experience, soft skills and effective networking. This gift is part of RBC Future Launch , a commitment to help young Canadians prepare for a rapidly changing world of work. As part of this partnership, RBC is also the main sponsor of Career Week on campus March 2 – 6.

About uOExperience:

uOExperience builds students’ soft skills such as business acumen, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, worldview and intercultural sensitivity, innovation, and emotional intelligence. It promotes experiential learning opportunities to 42,000 students through community engagement activities, service learning, CO-OPs and internships as well as professor-led classroom activities. The program encourages students to apply skills and knowledge related to their program of study, to gain work experience and to develop their professional networks.

This program will further develop uOttawa student readiness across all faculties and prepare them for their transition to the workforce.

About RBC Future Launch initiative:

RBC Future Launch is a 10-year $500M commitment to Canada’s youth, RBC’s largest ever investment in a social issue. RBC Future Launch partnerships focus on helping youth by providing work experience opportunities, building their networks, acquiring new skills and enhancing their well being.

QUOTE from Marjolaine Hudon, Regional President, Ontario North & East at Royal Bank of Canada

“Students are entering the workforce at a time of profound change. The uOExperience will help them develop the right mix of skills and competencies that employers will seek in the future world of work,” said Marjolaine Hudon, Regional President, RBC.  “We need to get this right. Canada’s future prosperity is depending on it.”

QUOTE from Jacline Nyman, Vice-President, External Relations, uOttawa: “The skills that people need to succeed in the working world are difficult for many to acquire. Experience and access to opportunity are important in creating an equitable future for our students. Thanks to RBC’s Future Launch program we will be able to expand what we do to prepare students as they transition to work and provide them with some of the interpersonal skills needed to succeed.”

RBC Regional President Marjolaine Hudon will present the gift during uOttawa Career Week.
