The University of Ottawa invites members of the media to discover the creativity and ingenuity of the next generation of inventors, designers, entrepreneurs and makers at Design Day on Thursday, March 29. Students from the Faculty of Engineering will showcase prototypes and present solutions to real world problems for real clients.

WHAT: uOttawa Design Day
WHEN: Thursday, March 29, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (awards ceremony 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

Over 100 projects will be on display, including:

Environmental robots to reduce pollution: Students have been working on adding components and mechanisms to improve on current Robot Missions environmental robots.

Transportable house for Indigenous communities: First-year students have been building a transportable house for an Indigenous community, which includes living space, heating and cooling systems, an automation system to minimize energy usage and a water management system.

Hydroponics grow walls: Students are developing grow walls for the Parkdale Food Centre, which is expanding and needs movable  modular grow walls that can be installed in places like schools or community centres and maintained easily.

Other projects include accessible designs for Saint-Vincent Hospital patients, pedestrian “dynamic” blockers for the Ottawa Police Service, interactive art for the new uOttawa STEM Complex, race cars and much more!

A major announcement will also take place at the beginning of the awards ceremony.
