In this era of reconciliation, where the federal government and the Canadian public have struggled to match an earnest wish for a new relationship with Indigenous Peoples and the necessary tools to secure it, the Shawn and Khush Singh Lecture Series is proud to host Natan Obed on Monday, November 4, 2019.
President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, the national voice for Inuit communities in the Canadian Arctic, Mr. Obed has devoted his career to working with Inuit representational organizations to improve the well-being of Canadian Inuit. He will discuss implementing Inuit self-determination at the federal level, developing an Inuit Nunangat (Inuit regions) policy and the implications for how Canada defines itself.
Following Mr. Obed, a panel of experts hailing from uOttawa’s Faculty of Social Sciences will share their insights.
Since its inception in 2017, the Shawn and Khush Singh Distinguished Lecture Series has endeavoured to bring the world’s top leaders, academics, entrepreneurs and public servants to the University of Ottawa. Previous guests include Lieutenant-General (ret.) the Honourable Roméo A. Dallaire, and American political activist, author, lecturer, and attorney Ralph Nader.
