On September 22nd and 23rd, immerse yourself in a world of science as 16 women researchers take science online during Science Literacy Week.
Soapbox Science Ottawa 2021 provides an opportunity to meet women leaders in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) and become inspired by their success. This event is part of an international initiative by Soapbox Science, which aims to bring science to the people and challenge gender stereotypes in careers in science.
Not only does this introduce the public to the fascinating research being conducted by these women leaders, but it shows young people what they are capable of accomplishing in science and as a result, it opens a door full of career paths.
The participants will have the chance to hear from scientists like Dr. Adina Luican-Mayer, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Ottawa, who will talk about the “amazing quantum world of the thinnest materials.”
The participants will also be able to learn more about magnetism with uOttawa Ph.D. student Niki Mavragani, Indigenizing STEM with Dawn Pratt, Founder/STEM Educator/Chemist, Askenootow STEM, or heart and brain connection for cardiovascular health with Dr. Jodi Edwards, Scientist and Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute/University of Ottawa.
The event is free and open to the public.
