New Chair of the Board of Governors

The University of Ottawa’s Board of Governors has appointed Jennifer Adams as its new Chair. 

Ms. Adams assumes this role as a seasoned leader in education and academia. She recently completed an eight-year term as the Director of Education for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, serving a diverse population of 73,000 students across 150 elementary and secondary schools. She is a former superintendent of curriculum, elementary school principal, and French teacher. Ms. Adams earned her doctorate in educational administration from the University of Toronto/OISE.  

Further to these accomplishments, Ms. Adams has served as the Chair of the Informal Advisory Group for the OECD Study on Social and Emotional Skills and is currently on the Executive Committee for Karanga: The Global Alliance for Social Emotional Learning and Life Skills. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Knowledgehook Signature Leadership Series. Ms. Adams is the founder and CEO of Educating Leaders, a consulting company specializing in education, future skills, and senior leadership/talent development.  

“I am delighted to take on this role. Throughout my career in education and academia, I have learned about the many opportunities and challenges postsecondary institutions are currently facing. It will be an honour to work with our talented leadership teams in the service of the University of Ottawa’s diverse community of learners”, said Ms. Adams who has served as a member of the University’s Board of Governors since 2019. 

The University would like to extend its gratitude to outgoing Chair, Kathryn Butler Malette, who has done a formidable job steering our Board. Ms. Butler Malette served for three terms, with a two-year extension as Chair. Ms. Adams will formally assume her new role on July 1, 2021.
