The University of Ottawa today issued the following statement following the approval by the Ontario Superior Court last Friday of the settlement of the class action involving the University of Ottawa and some of its former men’s hockey players. The class action stems from a 2014 decision to suspend the University’s men’s hockey program following serious allegations of sexual assault.

“The University of Ottawa entered into the settlement with members of this class action suit because it believes it is in the best interest of both parties.

The settlement is not an admission of liability by the University.

However, taking into account the extensive burden and expense of litigation, the University believes this agreement is fair and brings finality to the matter.”
