The University of Ottawa is partnering with the federal government and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) to support the mental health and wellbeing of teachers and education workers across the country.

Canada’s Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health announced $798,500 in funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) for the Canadian Teachers’ Federation as part of the Educator Well-being during Pandemic Recovery: Supporting the Mental Health of Teachers and Education Workers project.

Associate Professor Tara Elton-Marshall of the School of Epidemiology and Public Health is leading the initiative at Faculty of Medicine. She will collaborate with the CTF to deliver this project at three pilot school sites across Canada.

The projects will determine the overall mental wellbeing of the schools, assess school mental health cultures, and deliver a virtual group intervention.

The pilots are expected to begin in September 2023 and continue until January 2024.
