Manisha Kulkarni (English only)

Dr. Kulkarni’s INSIGHT research lab is engaged in tick-monitoring projects throughout Ontario, including in eastern Ontario where they are part of the Canadian Lyme Disease Research Network and web-based tick identification and surveillance via eTick.

The lab’s UPTick Project in western Ottawa is examining the risk of tick-borne diseases in four Ottawa neighbourhoods, and her team is engaged with the NCC in a project called the Greenbelt Tick Study to test strategies to reduce ticks along recreational trails in the Greenbelt.

“We’re already seeing lots of ticks in the environment and, with the warm, wet weather we’ve had of late, it could mean a lot of tick activity in the coming months when Lyme disease risk is at its peak.”
