They prey on your busy life and common online activities.

6 ways to protect yourself from scam emails

  1. Be skeptical: These emails count on your being busy and absent-mindedly clicking on links or sending personal details.
  2. Login to legitimate sites: If an email says your account is compromised, do not click on the email link. Using your web browser or app, log in to the site and change account information there.
  3. Contact the sender: Use the institution’s website to find accurate contact information to ask questions about requests for personal information.
  4. Talk to others: When you are unsure whether it is phishing, talk to trusted friends, colleagues and family—they may spot things you don’t.
  5. Use the Report Message button: Reporting suspicious emails and accounts improves email filtering for everyone. Messages that are reported are analyzed and help us adjust our cybersecurity practices and strategies. Check detailed instructions to Report a suspicious message.
  6. Notify the Service Desk: If you accidentally clicked on a link or shared personal information, notify the Service Desk for help and guidance.
