With many employees doing telework, Unified Communications will offer a consistent way of dealing with calls whether working on campus or at home or anywhere else.

Things are afoot!

We are preparing for a Unified Communications project at the University. This technology combines Internet-based phone services and messaging into a full-featured communications platform to provide collaboration tools to work anywhere and from any device.

Most of our traditional handsets on campus would be replaced by software-enabled communications through Microsoft Teams. So, you could say that we’re replacing “hard phones” by “soft phones”. It will be a fantastic change for us all. Convenient. Portable. Agile.

The timing is right for several reasons. Technology now offers much more flexibility than it did 20 years ago. Integrating into our existing technology framework, Microsoft Teams is the platform of choice, one in which the University community has a good level of familiarity. And with many employees doing telework, Unified Communications will offer a consistent way of dealing with calls whether working on campus or at home or anywhere else!

Stay tuned in the upcoming months for developments on this initiative.
