What was your last career change?
I was a senior manager at a software company based outside Canada.
What made it successful?
In addition to possessing a solid foundation in my field of expertise, the success of my career change can be attributed to a blend of essential soft skills such as positive mindset, flexibility, and adaptability. I’ve had the opportunity to acquire and develop those skills during my 12 years of experience, as I consulted on projects across 18 countries in four continents. The diversity within those projects – ranging in types, industries, geographical locations, and the versatile background of the stakeholders involved –prepared me for my career move.
What was the biggest challenge in adapting to your new role?
The primary challenge I faced in transitioning to my new role at the University of Ottawa was integrating into projects that were already underway for several months, without being involved in their initial discussion and design phases. This situation proved to be particularly demanding, especially when essential designs were not well-documented. The lack of this context created a gap that required significant effort to bridge effectively.
I eagerly anticipate each day with a strong focus on personal and professional growth. Finding a business environment that fosters this growth is crucial to me, and I believe that uOttawa embodies such an environment. Outside of work, I look forward to spending quality time with my family.
