Increased collaboration, security and access delivered to 144,000 email accounts

Someone looking at their emails.
Did you know that our community is connecting to uOttawa from 181 countries? For most of this year, the University has been facilitating these connections and providing tools that support learning, teaching and research.

By migrating over 144,000 email accounts to the Microsoft 365 platform, students worldwide continue to access emails and collaboration tools from wherever they are learning remotely.

University employees have been using Microsoft email for years, migrating students to the same platform offers new possibilities for teaching and learning through common tools. Additional advantages include:

  • Increased security and privacy: Microsoft complies with rigorous standards and specific processes, and account data is stored in Canada.
  • Increased efficiency: Microsoft Office applications like Word and PowerPoint are commonly used and familiar for many users.
  • Improved user experience: navigating with Outlook is simple and its collaborative environment is easy to use.
  • Free access to desktop applications and online storage: Students will have access to a wide variety of web and desktop applications through their uOttawa accounts.
  • Continued communications: Our previous platform was blocked by many countries. This change was completed during the pandemic so students could continue learning online.

Decommissioning of Google tools

Google recently announced that it's no longer offering unlimited storage for Google tools (Google Drive, Google Docs, etc.) as of May/June 2022. Due to this change and the availability of storage and collaboration on the Microsoft 365 platform, access to Google accounts and saved data will cease on June 29, 2022. Migrate your data now to avoid losing saved information.
