It’s a key idea that defines the University’s Digital Campus Transformation Plan. It isn’t just lip service; Information Technology wants feedback. Two new discussion forums offer professors and students to have their say about IT initiatives.
In June, the Office of the Chief Information Officer hosted a Professor Advisory Committee and a Student Discussion Forum for IT initiatives. These forums serve as an opportunity to better understand the user experience, and to consult directly with the community about upcoming and on-going IT initiatives.
“The IT Student Discussion Forum acts as a bridge between students and the IT team. As Information Technology works on digitally transforming the campus, it is important to get input from the students as they are the end user,” explains student and Digital Strategist Chinmayee Mahagaonkhar. “I was happy to participate in the forum to make sure students receive a state of the art and top-notch university experience.”
Information Technology leverages these meetings to gain an understanding of impacts, potential challenges, timing and required tools and support. The consultations contribute to the successful planning and implementation of various IT initiatives.
“Feedback is central to deliver meaningful IT solutions for our community,” explains Daniel Trottier, Senior Director of IT Solutions. “These forums facilitate a dialogue between users and Information Technology so we can improve the technologies being used at the University. We are being inspired to look at ways of maximizing University tools and resources.”
Users affecting change
Based on feedback from the sessions, we are planning changes that will enhance the user experience in the CO-OP Navigator. Students also shared feedback about the Perspectives Web Project that have been communicated to the project team. Information Technology is reviewing the other feedback that was shared on topics ranging from online teaching and learning to the return to campus.
