Marie-Josée Hamel, a full professor and Director of graduates studies at the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, was invited to participate in an armchair discussion on the topic of official languages in the era of telework during this year’s 2020 Linguistic Duality Day. During the event, which took place on September 10, 2020, participants discussed the challenges created by telework, as well as the opportunities offered by recent technological advances. As the leader of the University of Ottawa Research Chair: “New technologies and Computer Assisted Language Learning”, Professor Hamel was able to share a relevant and current perspective and discuss how technology can facilitate opportunities for second-language interactions.
Linguistic Duality Day was an unprecedented success this year with over 2,000 public servants participating in the webcast. This is a great example of the opportunities offered by virtual connections. Created in 2009, Linguistic Duality Day celebrates the values and rich heritage of our bilingual country.
