Update on the encampment in front of Tabaret Hall:

Dear uOttawa Community,

I’m writing to provide an update on the encampment in front of Tabaret Hall.

Representatives of the University administration have been engaged in formal dialogue with student organizers over the past few weeks. Several meetings have taken place, and the tone of the discussions has been constructive.

We have put forward serious proposals to address the organizers’ concerns, both economic and academic. Throughout the discussions, we have reaffirmed our commitment to maintaining responsible investment practices. The University is a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI), which are currently incorporated into our Responsible Investment Guidelines. We are committed to reviewing our Guidelines through a human rights lens.

Our proposals were rejected by the organizers. We are disappointed with this outcome and remain intent on working toward a resolution to the situation.

The University upholds our foundational values of academic freedom and freedom of expression. Equally important is the right of every member of our community to be safe on our campuses. This remains our priority.

Respectfully,

Jacques Beauvais

Interim Provost and Vice-President, Academic Affairs
