Canadian Centre for Studies and Research on Bilingualism and Language Planning (CCERBAL)

At the Canadian Centre for Studies and Research on Bilingualism and Language Planning (CCERBAL), our researchers cross disciplinary boundaries, innovate, and support multilateral exchanges and partnerships. Our activities are rich and inspiring. Our various stakeholders contribute to and benefit from our projects.

About the CCERBAL

The CCERBAL connects internationally recognized researchers in various fields, including language teaching and learning, assessment, technology, language policy, and family language policy. Our researchers cross disciplinary boundaries, innovate, and support multilateral exchanges and partnerships.

Our mandate

The CCERBAL was established by OLBI with a mandate to promote innovation and excellence in research. By supporting research chairs, research groups, an academic journal, conferences, symposia, special events, partnerships, and multiple other activities, the Centre fosters national and international interdisciplinarity exchanges. In addition to its core and associate members, CCERBAL also welcomes researchers in residence and student researchers who further contribute to the Centre’s richness and vitality.

Our mission

We are community-builders and internationally recognized experts, prime consultants in dealing with issues related to language planning and social cohesion. We work with Canadian and international universities, all levels of government agencies, and nongovernmental organizations with interests and responsibilities in bilingualism, official languages, and pluri/multilingualism.

The CCERBAL also serves as an advisory body on language policy and social cohesion in Canada and internationally. Its services are available to the academic community, to governments, and to non-governmental organizations with interest and responsibilities in the field of bilingualism, broadly defined.
