I really appreciated the quality of the teaching throughout the Master’s in Bilingualism Studies program. In addition to gaining a host of practical skills, I really improved my critical thinking skills thanks to the reflections that were part of our courses. I also rekindled my passion for research.
To be honest, it was my professors who helped me realize this. I followed their advice and switched from the practical placement to the research paper option. I benefited from the experience from start to finish.
During my studies, I also had the chance to work at the University as a teaching assistant, as a research assistant and as a French evaluator for Second Language Certification Testing (SLCT), which allowed me to apply all my knowledge and experience in teaching French as a second language (FLE/FLS) and in standardized language evaluation.
As for any specific challenges I had to overcome, I would say they were stress and anxiety. However, I knew I could count on my classmates and professors, who always lent a friendly ear. I also took part in the Julien Couture Resource Centre (JCRC) conversation workshops, which helped me relax a bit, practice my English, and get to know people in a very friendly setting.
For a few months now, I have been working in the OLBI’s Language Evaluation Services as intermediate coordinator. I am learning a lot and I hope to contribute significantly to the team.
