Imad, Elarbi

Elarbi Imad is the President and Executive Director of the Moroccan Center for Civic Education, which he founded in 2004. At a time when Morocco is engaging in political reform, the Centre educates and trains youth to better exercise their citizenship. It offers two programs aimed at students, Project Citizen and Foundations of Democracy, which use schools to encourage youth to participate in government.   In 2008, the Centre hosted the 12th World Congress on Civic Education, a forum where representatives from 65 countries who were involved in civic education could meet to discuss their work. A teacher by training, he has designed national examinations and has been involved in teacher education. Elarbi Imad is also Country Director of the Civitas International Program, which promotes civic education in eighty countries.
