The selection committee assists the Board of Governors in appointing the person who best meets the requirements of the position of president and vice-chancellor of the University of Ottawa.

The committee is comprised of 14 members:

  • the chair of the Board of Governors, who acts as committee chair
  • the vice-chair of the Board of Governors, who chairs committee meetings when the chair is absent
  • five members elected by the Senate from its members, including at least one dean, one member of the faculty and one student
  • seven members of the Board of Governors designated by the board on the recommendation of its Executive Committee, including one student and one support staff member

At the October 21, 2024 Senate meeting, the following Senate members were named to the selection committee:  

  • Lucie Thibault, dean, Faculty of Health Sciences
  • Charles Russell Thickstun, graduate student, Faculty of Medicine
  • Martin Lalumière, vice-dean, governance and internationalization, and professor, Faculty of Social Sciences
  • Emily Landriault, research librarian
  • Mark Salter, vice-dean, research, and professor, Faculty of Social Sciences

At its October 29, 2024 meeting, the Board of Governors named the following members: 

  • Jennifer Adams, ex officio member
  • Bryce Bogie (representing students) 
  • Joe Geurts 
  • François Guimont, ex officio member
  • André Juneau

  • Graham Mayeda (representing professors)

Boyden Canada has been designated to assist the selection committee in its recruitment activities. The secretary-general of the University and her office will serve as the committee secretariat.

Process and timeline

The process is governed by the Procedure for the selection of a President at University of Ottawa adopted by the Board of Governors in consultation with the Senate.
