The Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) is a non-profit educational organization recognized as the leading North American champion in leveraging research and best practices to propel the inclusion of women in the field of engineering. WEPAN honourees demonstrate extraordinary service, significant achievements, and exemplary work that promotes inclusion and the success of women in engineering.
Professor Catherine Mavriplis is this year’s recipient of the Educator’s Award for Collegiate Programs, which honours an engineering educator for exceptional achievement in increasing the participation and retention of women in engineering. Only a few people have received this award since 2009, and we are proud to count a member of the uOttawa Faculty of Engineering among them.
As a tireless supporter of the advancement of women in engineering, Professor Mavriplis has developed a valuable array of programming to recruit, advance, and empower women in STEM fields. Her work has equipped the community with lasting programs of national scope, both in Canada and the United States.
Just last year, Professor Mavriplis won the Engineers Canada Award for the Support of Women in the Engineering Profession. This new recognition from WEPAN further highlights Professor Mavriplis’ important role as a local, regional, national, and international leader when it comes to empowering women in engineering.
Congratulations Professor!
