Deputy Provost, Planning and Academic Budgets

Mandate

The Deputy Provost, Planning and Academic Budgets supports the Provost in all matters related to planning, development and execution of academic activities. This includes responsibility for the Professional Development Institute, Institutional Research and Planning, and the Financial Planning Department.

The Deputy Provost's responsibilities include the budgeting process to determine revenues and budget allocations to faculties and services, strategic planning including follow-ups on Transformation 2030 and the Strategic Mandate Agreement with the Government of Ontario, as well as numerous analyses and reports to assist senior administration in making more informed decisions.

Biography

Jean-François Tremblay has been a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Ottawa since 2003. His research focuses on economic growth, fiscal federalism, public finance and taxation.

Professor Tremblay has also held the positions of director of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University Joint Doctoral Program in Economics and program director for the master’s in economics. In 2022, he was named a Special Advisor, Budgets and Planning, in the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic Affairs.

In March 2023, Jean-François Tremblay was appointed Deputy Provost, Planning and Academic Budgets to implement the University’s vision and strategic directions and to achieve the ambitious goals of Transformation 2030. He took office on July 1, 2023.
