Wellness Skill-Building Seminars

Led by a uOttawa clinical psychologist, these seminars will help you learn, practice and master effective wellness strategies and skills that will be useful throughout your entire academic career and even beyond.

What will you learn?

Each seminar will focus on a different wellness skill. We will look at the science behind that skill and show you how to use it to improve your own wellbeing and effectiveness.

These seminars have a practical component. You will learn by doing, as well as reading and listening.

Schedule and topics

You can attend the seminar of your choice or the entire series. Attending the complete series will you help you reinforce the skills you have learned. Seminars usually take place on Fridays, from 1 p.m. until 2:20 p.m., on Zoom. The Zoom link will be provided to you upon registration.

  • Seminar 1: The five pillars of well-being: five ways to maximize happiness.
  • Seminar 2: Relaxation breathing and mindfulness (on demand).
  • Seminar 3: Fact-checking your doubts, worries and what-ifs. Tracking accomplishments.
  • Seminar 4: The extraordinary benefits of sleep on learning and wellbeing.
  • Seminar 5: Scheduling: the science and art of making it all fit.
  • Seminar 6: Goal setting, building habits and GRIT. Tackling procrastination and boredom.
  • Seminar 7: Mental illness: Do I have it and what can I do about it? 

Following each seminar, you will be able to complete optional exercises. These exercises will make you practice the skills you have learned, test your knowledge, or help you learn something about yourself.
