Sociology studies how societies work, how they're structured and how they have evolved over the centuries. It also studies the distinguishing features of the myriad cultures that have emerged and formed societies throughout history. Sociologists have a special interest in social change, and they examine society from all points of view in an attempt to understand that change.
In sociology courses, research and readings, students focus on:
- ethnic relations
- deviance and social problems
- the role of women in society
- international development
- political sociology
- the role of technology in societies
