The Faculty of Arts offers a major and a minor in arts administration, which add professional management skills to the training of artists in music, theatre and visual arts.
Managing a cultural organization requires specialized knowledge and know-how. Training in an artistic discipline, when combined with the major in arts administration, is a solid base for a career as an administrator in a theatre, an orchestra or an art gallery, or as a communications specialist. And even if students opt for a career as performers, the training they receive in the program leaves them with a deeper understanding of how the arts and culture scene works.
Both programs acquaint students with the main issues and key players of the cultural sector.
Both programs have one compulsory and one optional work-period course. Students arrange these work periods with a local arts organization and in consultation with the program co-ordinator.
The major and the minor in arts administration must normally be combined with an undergraduate program of studies in music, theatre or visual arts, or with another undergraduate program approved by the Coordinating Committee.
