The School of Human Kinetics offers two bachelor's degree programs in human kinetics and a minor in leisure studies.


Both bachelor's programs provide critical fundamental knowledge yet maximize flexibility in course selection, thus enabling you to take better control of your own studies.

The programs also operate in theoretical and practical learning environments that combine to stimulate your intellectual, personal and career development. With a degree in human kinetics, you are well prepared to be a leader in any number of physical-activity, sports, leisure and health fields. What's more, the School of Human Kinetics is in the Faculty of Health Sciences, thus providing stimulating interdisciplinary perspectives and an excellent framework in which to discover how physical activity, leisure and sport together weigh so heavily in the health of individuals and society as a whole.

The Honours Bachelor in Human Kinetics emphasizes the social sciences and humanities perspective of human kinetics, thus revolving around the disciplines of sociology, psychology, leisure and administration. At the same time, you gain an understanding of the basic bio-physical aspects of human movement. You can explore a number of areas in this program, including: a) community recreation and sport, b) socio-cultural studies in leisure and sport, c) sports and leisure management, d) coaching in sports, e) outreach work in schools and other settings, and f) psychology/consultation in sport, physical activity and health.

The Honours Bachelor of Science with specialization in Human Kinetics emphasizes the bio-physical factors of human kinetics and, as such, revolves around biomechanics, exercise physiology and psychomotor behavior. At the same time, you gain an understanding of the psycho-social aspects of human movement. This program readies you for further education in rehabilitation sciences and medicine, for teaching college and for graduate studies in the biophysical sciences. Career opportunities include clinical kinesiologist, ergonomist, personal trainer, work disability consultant and small-business owner.

The Minor in Leisure Studies focuses on individual, community, societal and environmental well-being. You examine leisure as a social and cultural phenomenon, investigate leisure behaviour, study the delivery and management of leisure services, consider the health benefits of leisure, and learn about the environmental impacts of leisure. In the process, you become prepared for a variety of management, programming, planning and leadership positions in the recreation and leisure services field.
