DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

a) Obtaining a degree

1. In order to earn an honors baccalaureate in commerce, students must have successfully completed at least 121 credits of courses with a grade of D or better while satisfying the conditions concerning compulsory courses and electives. Students must have a minimum cumulative average of 4.5 on all courses of their program completed at the University of Ottawa. In addition, students must have an average of at least 5.0 in the six best courses of their option or in the best six ADM courses at the 3000- and 4000-level, which are part of their specialized program or of their program without option. Students must have completed at least 12 credits of courses at the ADM 4000 level.
Grades obtained in courses for which advanced standing was granted or for courses taken at another University with a letter of permission (except for courses taken at Carleton University with the Ottawa-Carleton exchange program) are not computed in the cumulative grade point average.

2. If students foresee that, by the end of the academic year, they will have met all the requirements of the honors baccalaureate in commerce program, they must make a formal request for the degree before the deadline stipulated by the Office of the Registrar.

3. Candidates who, at the end of their program, have not achieved the required cumulative grade point average of 4.5 in all courses of their program will be permitted to register for a maximum of 24 additional credits of courses.
Candidates who, at the end of their program, have not achieved the required average of 5.0 in the six best courses of their option or the six best courses at the 3000- and 4000-level of their specialized program or their program without option will be permitted to register in a maximum of four additional courses (12 credits), repeating, if necessary, courses already taken.

Should the students fail to meet these requirements in this manner, they could attempt to meet the requirements of another option or of the program without option.

b) Minimum number of credits to be obtained at the University of Ottawa
(residence requirements)

To obtain a baccalaureate from the University of Ottawa, a student must obtain a minimum of 30 credits at the University of Ottawa. The credits are divided as follows based on the type of baccalaureate.

Honours: minimum of 30 credits in the chosen discipline.

To obtain a certificate from the University of Ottawa, a student must accumulate a minimum of 15 credits at the University of Ottawa.

Students who already have one degree from the University of Ottawa should consult the regulation concerning the granting of a second degree from the University of Ottawa.

c) Maximum duration of studies
In the case of students who have not completed within eight years the requirements of their undergraduate program of studies, the School reserves the right to review the students' files in order to impose additional requirements. Students registered in a certificate program must complete the requirements of their program within six years.

d) Granting of a second degree from the University of Ottawa
In order to obtain a second honours baccalaureate in commerce degree, students must pass a minimum of 30 credits beyond the normal requirements of their first honours baccalaureate.
In order to obtain a second certificate, students must pass a minimum of 15 credits beyond the normal requirements of their first certificate.

At least 50 percent of these additional credits must be obtained at the University of Ottawa.
Students transferring from another faculty or from another university must complete a minimum of ten courses (30 cr.) at the University of Ottawa to obtain a degree.

e) Registration for degree
In order that their names be submitted to Senate, students who expect to complete their degree requirements must fill in the registration for degree form. The form is available at the University Web site, at InfoService and at the Undergraduate Student Services office at the School of Management. This form must be returned to the Office of the Registrar no later than March 1 for spring convocation and no later than September 1 for fall convocation.
The final mark for deferred (DFR) courses must be received by the School prior to May 15 for students registered for spring convocation and prior to September 15 for students registered for fall convocation.

NOTE: Students must ensure that the courses in which they are registered meet the requirements of the degree sought.
