| To introduce the fundamental principles of immunology and to provide an understanding of the basic immunological reactions. The nature and chemistry of antigens and antibodies, the mechanisms of antigen-antibody reactions, specific immunity, both the humoral and cell-mediated types, will be described in relationship to the various types of immune mechanisms including those against infectious agents. The mechanisms of antibody formation and immunological tolerance will be explained as will the role of the immune system in the induction of disease such as allergy and auto-immune disease. The role of the immune reaction in transplant rejection, the control of cancer and various types of infectious diseases will also be covered. To be offered every year subject to sufficient demand. |
