The Social Sciences have been shaped by the forces of modernity; some of them, like economics and sociology, emerge in response to the political, economic, and social changes that characterize the beginnings of the modern era. The course will focus on the relations between these societal changes and the history of ideas on the individual, the state, society, and culture. |

| Ce cours examine comment les savoirs sur les sociétés humaines se sont constitués et organisés à partir de la Renaissance. Les sciences sociales s'inscrivent dans une histoire qui a été fortement marquée par l'avènement de la modernité, au point que certaines d'entre elles - comme la science économique et la sociologie - peuvent être d'abord envisagées à partir des rapports qu'elles présentent avec les changements politiques, économiques et sociaux accomplis à partir des débuts de l'époque moderne. Il s'agit donc de mettre en relief la nature des rapports entre ces divers changements et l'histoire des idées sur l'individu, l'État, la société et la culture. |
