An arm with bandaid

Why is it a good idea to get the seasonal flu vaccine?

The seasonal flu:

  • Is a contagious illness that infects the nose, throat and lungs
  • Causes symptoms such as fever, chills, headaches, muscle or body aches, fatigue, coughing and sometimes sneezing, a runny/stuffy nose, and diarrhea and vomiting
  • Results in symptoms that arise more quickly, and are more severe, than those of the common cold
  • Lasts one to two weeks

The flu can lead to more health complications, including pneumonia, sinus and ear infections, than the common cold. The flu is also known to worsen preexisting chronic conditions, such as asthma or chronic heart conditions.
