In this activity, you will discuss what recognition and reward mean individually and as a team in a practical way.

Why participate?

The vision for a psychologically healthy and safe workplace is one that actively works to prevent harm to staff and faculty's psychological health, including in negligent, reckless, or intentional ways, and promotes psychological well-being. It's a continual improvement process where everyone has a role to play. Take part and contribute in creating a psychologically healthy and safe workplace and support the University’s Transformation 2030.

“Transformation 2030 is our coming-of-age story. It is our path to greater resilience, enabling us to fulfill our potential as we respond with integrity and creativity to the demands of our world.”

Actions speak louder than words

When it comes to recognition and reward, the role leaders play in providing recognition to their direct reports is incredibly important. Managers should be able to recognize opportunities for recognition of their teams, as well as be able to provide that recognition (in addition to constructive feedback), in a respectful and constructive manner.

You can lead a collaborative conversation about recognition and reward challenges by viewing these discussions from three different perspectives:  staff and/or faculty member, team and manager. The following step-by-step guide is helpful for both managers, staff and faculty.
