How a peer support session works

Sessions last up to an hour. You can use as much or as little of this time as you wish. The latest booking is at 3 p.m. and the latest drop-in is at 3:30 p.m., to ensure you receive the time you need.

For confidentiality purposes, our peer support room accommodates only one student at a time. The room may be closed during opening hours if a session is in progress. If so, try another time or book a session.

What we can help you with

A peer support assistant will work with you to mobilize relevant on and off campus resources so that you feel more confident navigating your current stressors.

Peer support assistants can’t provide advice (medical or otherwise), professional psychotherapy, or health care. They’re not mental health professionals and aren’t equipped to provide long-term support. We understand that situations change and new stressors can emerge. You’re the expert when it comes to your own experience and can participate in peer support sessions as you wish.

Wellness Lounge

The Wellness Lounge is a safe and welcoming space you can visit on campus. The students who work at the Wellness Lounge are very familiar with health and wellness resources. They will be able to answer most of your questions. This is a good place to start if you are not sure what resource or program is best for you. Students are also trained in how to support others and can offer quick support on site.
Visit the Wellness Lounge in the Jock Turcot University Centre, Room 203.
