- Make sure that you’re feeling well on move-in day. You can always arrange an alternate arrival time slot if you need to reschedule due to illness. (If so, email [email protected] to plan the next steps.)
- Bring government-issued photo ID.
- Bring a digital or printed copy of your arrival pass (available through uoZone, in the Housing Portal, once you’ve completed the pre-arrival process).
- Get connected: Follow the @uOttawaCampus Instagram account and check out our upcoming activities.
Moving in
We are so excited to welcome you to residence! To help you plan your arrival, read the following information carefully.
Preparing for move-in day
Plan your arrival
There are many things you can do to make sure your arrival on campus goes smoothly. Here's a list.
- Sign into the Housing Portal and select your arrival time slot if you haven’t already (from June 19 to August 23).
- Save a digital or printed copy of your arrival pass (available in the Housing Portal) once you’ve completed the pre-arrival process.
- Pack so that you can move in making as few trips as possible. When you can, pack in stackable boxes or containers that can be loaded easily on a cart.
- Rent a fridge from Coldex (if required).
- Order your uOttawa Card and receive it in person at check-in during move-in. To avoid delays when moving in, order your card by August 5. You’ll need it to access your building and/or room (for all residences except Annex) and the Dining Hall (if you have a meal plan).
- Know how to get to campus and find your residence (see instructions below).
Accessing your residence on move-in day
Each residence building has a designated drop-off zone. For the drop-off zone and cart or key pick-up instructions for your building, see below and/or the residence access map (PDF, 811 KB).
Moving in
- Pick up your uOttawa card, keys and/or access cards.
- Find the key table at your drop-off location using the residence access map (PDF, 811 KB) or the instructions above.
- Show your government-issued photo ID. Only the ID of the student moving into residence is accepted. Only the students themselves can pick up their uOttawa card, keys and/or access card.
- Show a copy of your arrival pass (digital or printed).
- Note: If you miss the August 5 deadline to order your uOttawa student card, you must pick it up at Tabaret Hall and will experience delays.
- Move in your belongings in as few trips as possible.
- This is a very busy time with thousands of students moving in, so please limit the number of people who come with you, especially at one time in the elevators.
- You will be directed to an elevator. You may need to wait in line until it's available.
- Head directly to your room.
- If you must make more than one trip, immediately drop off your load and head back to the drop-off zone for your next one. You have 20 minutes in the drop-off zone. Then, you can park in the nearby designated parking area.
- If you can, please take the stairs down from your floor. This will free up the elevator for another resident moving in.
- Settle in
- Meet your Residence Life team.
- Learn the rules before setting up your room (see the “Personalize your room” section below)!
- Make sure you know the housing policies and documents such as your Residence Agreement and the Shared Living Guide.
- Inspect your room
- Test appliances, electrical outlets and switches, lamps, furniture, and water taps and drains, where applicable.
- Request any necessary repairs. Note: The Archibus request form works better with the Google Chrome browser.
- If you don’t have access to the form, email [email protected], call 613-562-5885 or go to the 90U reception for assistance.
Where you can, please reduce your comings and goings in residence from noon to 7 p.m. to allow new arrivals to move in quickly and safely.
Note that regular parking fees apply starting Saturday, August 31 at 6 p.m. Don’t forget to pay for parking if you return to campus after your scheduled move-in.
Note: When moving in, be aware that some rooms or units are already occupied by residents who have renewed their stay or arrived before you. Items found in the shared common areas probably belong to your roommate(s). Please respect the personal belongings and privacy of other students.
Personalize your room
Express your personality and feel at home. If you share a room or a common area, first talk with your roommates about decoration ideas. Since the space is shared, all roommates have to agree on decorations.
Posters and decorations
- Feel free to bring any non-offensive posters, pictures or decorations that you’d like.
- Use sticky tack, not thumb tacks or nails.
- Check with your community adviser before putting up anything for special events or celebrations.
- Don't put anything on your door. Except for your door tag.
- Don't cover fire detectors - You could get fined.
Re-arranging the furniture
Feel free to re-arrange the furniture if you have a private space. For shared spaces, discuss this with your roommate(s). You can’t take items out of your room or unit, and you must return furniture to its original location when you move out.
Animals and plants
Pets are not allowed in residence for health and cleanliness reasons. This includes fish. Service and emotional support animals must be approved by the Housing Service before move-in. Plants (even carnivorous ones!) are allowed.
Students with an existing disability or medical condition must request support or adaptive measures before or during the residence application process.
