What are recognition and reward?
Recognition and reward are present in a work environment where there is appropriate acknowledgement and appreciation of staff and faculty's efforts in a fair and timely manner. This includes appropriate and regular acknowledgements such as staff, faculty or team celebrations, recognition of good performance and years served, and milestones reached. Where recognition and reward are present in an organization, staff and faculty are given appropriate acknowledgement and recognition for their work in a fair and timely way. This doesn’t mean that every staff and faculty needs to be recognized for every action, but that they feel that what they do matters and are valued. It is important to also remember that people like to be recognized in different ways – big and small – and to ask the person how they would like to be recognized.
