What happens if I forget or lose my student card?    
All participants must present a student or membership card to the league supervisor or referee before the start of the game. If you forget your student card, you will not be granted access to play in intramurals that day. If you lost your student card, you can have it replaced by visiting the uOttawa Card Service office.

What happens if I'm not on the game sheet?   
Any participant not on the game sheets (i.e., properly registered to the team) will not be allowed to play in intramurals. If you are not on the game sheet and believe there is a genuine mistake, please visit the intramurals office or speak to a league supervisor on site. They will bring this issue to an assistant coordinator, who will verify your eligibility. 

Can we make mid-season roster changes?    
Yes! We do roster modification requests throughout the season and will happily make any changes during our office hours. To make a roster modification request, the captain will have to send us an email with the details of the request. Any parties to be added to the team will have to come by our office during operating hours to sign a registration form. Please note that a $20 fee applies to each roster modification after captains’ meeting day. 

Can uOttawa varsity or competitive club players be on my team?    
Varsity players can partake in intramurals; however, they are not allowed to participate in the sport that they are a varsity athlete for (e.g., a varsity basketball player cannot play intramurals basketball; they can play hockey, however). If club players choose to participate in the sport they are a club athlete in, there is a maximum amount of two club players for that team. There is no maximum amount of club players for sports in which they are not club athletes in.

What happens if we don’t have enough players for a game?     
If your team does not meet the minimum number of participants, the captain must contact the league supervisor 24 hours before game-time and notify them that their team will forfeit. Failing to do this will result in the team paying a forfeit fee ($50 for hockey, $20 for all other sports). Please note that players may still show up to play/practice/scrimmage in the event of a forfeit. 

Are spectators allowed?     
Spectators may attend intramural games, but they are not permitted on team benches or sidelines, they must sit or stand in designated areas (e.g., behind nets in Lees Dome, chairs in gymnasiums, etc.). Spectators that are non-students may attend games that are played in Montpetit, but they must sign a form. Please note spectators must adhere to facility guidelines and must be prepared to present a physical form of identification.

How many games do I have to play to be eligible for playoffs?  
Participants must play/attend two regular season games to be eligible for playoffs. A player attending a game that ends up being a forfeit counts as one game played.

If the weather is bad, will my game be cancelled/rescheduled?    
Games may be cancelled under extreme/unsafe weather conditions. We will notify participants should there be a cancellation. Unfortunately, we do not reschedule regular season games. We will do our absolute best to reschedule any missed playoff games. 

Can I bring my bag/boots into the gymnasium?    
No boots and bags are allowed in the gymnasium as they creates hazards and ruin the floors. There are lockers in the changerooms for participants to safely store their personal belongings (limited locks are available for rental). 

Can I play on multiple intramural teams?   
You can play on as many intramural teams as you want, as long as they are in different leagues. Tiered leagues that take place on the same night (e.g., Tue Rec A & Rec B) are considered different leagues. 

Can we pick our team colours?  
Unfortunately, due to the number of teams in intramurals, we cannot accommodate requests for specific team colours. Every team will get a random shirt colour. 

How many non-students (external/community members) can I have per team?
Intramural teams should primarily be composed of students. We are happy to welcome non-students (community members/externals/alumni) into our programs, however, the limit is two per team in gym/field leagues and three per team in ice leagues. Please note co-op students who purchase memberships are considered part of the student population. 

Smoking and vaping is prohibited in all facilities, including within 20 metres of the premises.

Alcoholic beverages may not be consumed in facilities outside of licensed areas. Personal alcohol consumption is prohibited.

Participants who play in our leagues under the influence of any drugs and/or alcohol will be subject to severe sanctions from the disciplinary committee. The policies outlined apply to all individuals inside the facility, including spectators.

As a member of Gee-Gees Intramurals, you must be aware of your individual responsibilities. Below you will find a list of responsibilities and reminders pertinent to all intramural participants.

As a player, you are responsible for:

• presenting a valid student ID/membership card;
• wearing your intramural t-shirt/jersey at all games;
• informing your team captain if you are unable to make a game;
• knowing and obeying league rules, policies, and procedures;
• respecting all calls made by officials. Verbal or physical abuse toward intramural staff will not be tolerated;
• signing forms if necessary (major accident form, incident form, etc.);
• providing your own equipment if it is not provided by the league.

Player eligibility

A player can only play on one team per league but may play in all other sports or leagues offered. Varsity players can partake in intramurals; however, they are not allowed to participate in the sport that they are a varsity athlete for (e.g., a varsity basketball player cannot play intramurals basketball; they can play hockey, however). If club players choose to participate in the sport, they are a club athlete in, there is a maximum amount of two club players for that team. There is no maximum amount of club players for sports in which they are not club athletes in.

Some students are considered non-members our recreation programs as sports incidental fees are not automatically billed as part of their tuition fees (e.g., co-op students). In order to take part in intramural programs, these students must purchase a Sports Services basic membership for the duration of the activity. 

Non-students may purchase a community membership. In team-based leagues, there is a limit of two non-students (with a valid purchased membership) per team for gym/field league, and three for ice hockey leagues. Please note that co-op students, although having to purchase a membership, are still considered students and do not count toward the limit.

Spare players

Please note there are no “spare players”. All participants who wish to participate must be registered to play and be on the gamesheets.

All suspensions / disciplines are reviewed and decided by the Disciplinary Committee.

Verbal abuse and unsportsmanlike conduct

Illegal participation

A team with a player involved in any form of illegal participation will automatically forfeit the game and must pay a $20 forfeit fee ($50 for hockey).

Miscellaneous

Sport-specific infractions

• Any incidents not listed above will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the disciplinary committee.
• Suspensions can carry over semester-by-semester or over multiple years.
• Any intramural participants/staff have a right to report any incident to the human rights office.
• Please note committing multiple infractions listed above may result in suspensions stacking.
• All decisions are final and cannot be appealed. 

Suspension notification policy

For serious incidents, the parties involved, including their captain will be contacted by a representative of the disciplinary committee to schedule a hearing. Once a decision has been made, the participant, the captain, the league supervisor, and the head referee will all be notified. Please note that a player is not eligible to play throughout this process. Suspensions may carry over from league to league (e.g., if suspended in a soccer league, the same suspension may apply to the participant's hockey league). Incidents are also subject to further disciplinary sanctions which may result in the loss of sports services membership during their suspension period (e.g., fitness centres, drop-In programs).

To discourage forfeits, we require that all teams pay a $20 (or $50 for hockey) fee for each forfeit. This fee can be paid at the intramural office (Montpetit 102), the Montpetit Client Service desk, or the Minto Sports Complex Client Service desk, and the receipt must be presented to the league supervisor(s) before the start of their next game. 

• The team forfeited against will receive full credit for a victory. Scoring for these defaults is provided in each league’s rules. Scoring for these forfeits depends on the sport and is provided in each sport's rules on the website.
• If the forfeit fee is not paid, the team will lose the next game by default and the team will be suspended until the fee is paid. If such a case were to occur, the team would now be required to pay a forfeit fee for two games.
• We may waive forfeit feeds under exceptional circumstances.
• Forfeit fees will be waived if written notification is provided at least 24 hours in advance.
• We do not enforce forfeit fees in individual leagues.

Refunds and withdrawals

• Full refunds are issued if a league is cancelled before any games take place.
• A refund may be issued for a withdrawal from any league before the second game of play for an individual-based registration or a week before registration closes for team-based registration. After the second game of play refunds will only be issued due to illness or injury, in which case documented proof will be required (e.g., a doctor’s note).
• Refund will be issued in the form of cheque by mail. Please allow up to five weeks for the cheque to arrive in the mail. Please note that a 25% withdrawal fee will apply to all refunds.
• An administrative fee of $40 is applied to any returned cheques.

Program modifications / cancellations

All program dates, times, locations and fees are subject to changes. The most up-to-date information will be posted on our website.

Game Cancellations

Intramural staff reserves the right to cancel games without notice for a variety of reasons. These games will not be made up and will not directly affect standings. These reasons include, but are not limited to: facility malfunctions, insufficient participants, and extreme weather.

Please note that we do not provide personal equipment (e.g. cleats, kneepads, hockey gear). Please ensure that you have proper equipment prior to your game.

Wearing improper/missing equipment may result in a suspension.

Entrance to facilities

When attending your game, please bring your uOttawa student card/membership card. Please note that social media, school schedules, and other illegitimate forms of ID will not be accepted.

Players who appear to be intoxicated will not be allowed access to facilities and will be subject to a suspension.

Security of facilities

Intramurals makes no guarantees concerning any lost, stolen or damaged personal property. It is solely the responsibility of the participant to ensure that all valuables are safe and secure. We suggest leaving all valuables at home when participating in our leagues.

Please note that lockers are available at Montpetit. Participants are requested to bring their own locks if they wish to use these lockers. A limited number of locks are available for rental at our Client Services desk.

Parking fees

In order to park a vehicle on the University of Ottawa campus, members shall pay the appropriate fees established by the Parking and Sustainable Transportation Office.

Many parking lots are equipped with meters. Metered parking is enforced from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. For additional information, please contact the Parking and Sustainable Transportation Office at 613-562-5785.

Participants at the Minto Sports Complex, at Montpetit Hall, or at Lees Avenue are required to pay parking fees. Parking passes will not be issued to participants. It is their sole responsibility to find adequate parking.

All league rules are posted in the sport-specific pages. Select the sport of which rules you would like to review. Participants are encouraged to verse themselves in their respective league rules.

League supervisors and assistant coordinators have an outline of the necessary procedures to follow in the event of a medical emergency, thus ensuring the safety and security of all players. An emergency protocol will help those involved handle the situation in an efficient and safe manner. It is important that each participant receiving this information reads over the next section carefully and be aware of the procedures provided.

In the case of a medical emergency:

• Match play should be immediately ceased by the official(s) on hand.
• If the incident appears life-threatening, the team captain must send for immediate help from the Client Services desk and inform them of the situation.
• If the incident appears minor, and the league supervisor is not present, the team captain must be sent to find them.
• Protection Services (ext. 5411) should be notified directly if there is no league supervisor available.
• The league supervisor can assess the nature of the injury and determine whether additional medical help is required.
• All players not involved must return to their respective benches.
• The person(s) administering First Aid/CPR (if necessary), whether it be the league supervisor or facilities staff, must fill out the accident report (a detailed medical document on the injured party’s condition.)
• If the injured party(s) is unconscious, the team captain may have either the referee or a third party provide the necessary information (have another witness review the information and initial to ensure it is valid).
• Those present with the injured party should do everything possible to relax the player and keep other players or spectators from crowding the incident.
• In the case that a player can be safely removed from the playing area, they should be cared for on the sidelines until other help arrives or they are able to leave safely.
• If blood is seen on the playing surface or ground, a spill kit (at the front desk) must be used to clean before resuming play.
• Once the situation has been taken care of, officials may resume regular game play.
• Due to time constraints, no lost time will be made up at the end of regulation time.
• League supervisors and team captains must always notify the front desk if a medical kit is required.

In the event that a participant would like to file an appeal over a dispute, a concern, etc. they must follow the our appeal procedure. An appeal procedure has been set up to provide fair opportunity to all those involved with the intramural program. The procedure also limits any confusion on the steps taken, and further provides uniformity to the process.

APPEALS CONCERNING DISCIPLINE (E.G., SUSPENSIONS) WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED!

Step 1

Fill out and print an Appeals, Suggestions and Complaints Form (ASC) which is also available from the league supervisor or the Intramural office (Montpetit 102).

Step 2

Deliver the form to the league supervisor or Intramural office in a timely manner. The form may also be scanned and emailed to [email protected]. Ensure that the sport, the time of the game and the date submitted are well written on the form.

Step 3

The assistant coordinators and head referee meet to discuss a possible resolution in a timely manner. The league supervisor(s) may be involved depending on the situation. The resolution process can involve meetings and interviews with all parties, including the players involved.

Step 4

The party (or parties) involved will be notified by an assistant coordinator of the final decision.

ALL decisions made after the appeal are FINAL.

To ensure healthy and safe participation in physical activity, Sports Services encourages you to assess your health before undertaking any new sport or activity.

“Being more active is very safe for most people. However, some people should check with their doctor before they start becoming much more physically active.” (Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, 2002)

If you are between the ages of 15 and 69, Sports Services asks that you answer the seven questions in the PAR-Q form (physical activity readiness questionnaire) to determine if you should check with your doctor before you start being more active. If you are older than 69 years, you should consult your doctor before undertaking any new activities.
