Language requirements for incoming exchange students

Courses at the University of Ottawa are offered in English, French or a combination of both. To participate in our exchange program, whether as an undergraduate or a graduate, you must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in at least one of these two languages to fully engage with your coursework and academic activities at a postsecondary level.

French language programs

In order to be considered for a program offered in French, you must submit your official score in a University-approved language proficiency test.

You must have completed the language test less than two years before the start of the term indicated on your application for admission to the University of Ottawa.

Even if you achieve the required score, we reserve the right to have you take language courses if we feel that your knowledge of your language of instruction isn’t satisfactory.
